Gliding Experiences
What happens on a gliding experience?
A gliding experience will give you the chance to experience flying in a light, engineless aircraft known as a glider, whereby you stay airborne thanks to aerodynamic lift from the forces of thermal wave and drag in the air.
Where can I go on a gliding experience?
We're proud to have a number of airfields all across the UK on our books with gliding clubs run and approved under the BGA (British Gliding Association) that host gliding experiences. This includes Kent Gliding, Ridgewell Airfield and Dunkeswell Aerodrome.
What is the minimum age to take part in a gliding experience?
The minimum age for many of our gliding experience packages is 12 years old, so for those young aviation enthusiasts with an eye on a future flying career, it's a great way to get them introduced to flying and piloting an aircraft without an engine.
What is the difference between aerotow and winch launch in gliding?
The main difference between the two methods of gliding - aerotow and winch launch - is that the former uses a powered aeroplane which tows the glider to higher altitudes, whilst the latter utilises a powerful engine down on the ground which helps to pull the glider upwards into the sky.
How long does a gliding session last?
It will usually state either in the title of the gliding session voucher you want to book or under the 'Duration' section of the voucher how long the session lasts.
