Opened in 1868 as the Aylesbury & Buckingham Railway and later part of the Great Central, passenger services stopped in 1963. Since then, the railway has been preserved and maintained, now housing over 170 items of rolling stock and locomotives. The railway covers 25 acres and is well-maintained, hosting regular steam days and themed events throughout the season. Visitors can also enjoy a miniature ride-on railway and a model railway. The highlight is the glass-roofed visitor centre and museum, a bright, spacious area filled with gleaming locomotives, wagons, artefacts, and interactive exhibits that bring railway history to life. These packages include entrance to the railway, unlimited rides on full-sized trains, a guided tour of the visitor centre, and afternoon tea in the Oxford Rooms. You can also ride the miniature railway, take walks around the site, visit the restoration shed, and see the dining car, the travelling post office, and the 1935 New York tram— the only one outside the USA!
