About the Experience

Water Experience Days: Enjoy a three-hour introductory canoeing adventure in the beautiful countryside of South Glamorgan, where you can choose between a peaceful paddle or an adrenaline-filled white water experience. Set within the stunning landscapes of Brecon Beacons National Park, this versatile session offers the perfect way to explore the outdoors from the water.

After meeting your experienced instructor at the base camp, you will get kitted out with all the necessary equipment before heading out for your adventure. If you prefer a relaxed introduction to canoeing, you may glide across the tranquil waters of Pontsticill Reservoir, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. For those seeking more excitement, the fast-flowing River Usk offers thrilling rapids that provide a real challenge and plenty of splashes along the way.

Whichever route you choose, you will learn essential canoeing skills while enjoying the incredible natural beauty of the Welsh countryside. This half-day canoeing experience is a fantastic way to try something new, spend time outdoors, and create unforgettable memories on the water.

  • Minimum Age: 8 years

    Participants who are not able to swim can still take part - you will simply need to inform your instructor upon arrival and they will be able to give advice accordingly.

    All instructors are British Canoe qualified and can cater for beginners and advanced paddlers alike.

  • Please ensure you are wearing sturdy shoes with good soles - these may get wet.

    You will also need to bring a change of clothes and a towel with you.

    Upon arrival, you will be kitted out with a helmet and buoyancy aid. In the winter months, you will also be provided with a wetsuit to keep you warm. In the summer, you will be fine to wear shorts and a t-shirt - swimsuits will need to be worn under both.

    Please also bring a packed lunch and a drink with you, as you will need refreshments after your activity - these are not provided by the centre.

  • This exciting 3 hour Canoeing experience in the Brecon Beacons is available throughout the year on both weekdays and weekends.

    Please note that bookings in May, June and July can be tricky due to higher numbers of large group bookings, so please give plenty of notice.

    Participants: The South Glamorgan Half Day Canoeing For Two is for 2 participants.

    Max Group Size: 11

    Spectators Allowed on Site: No

    This is a shared group experience which requires a minimum of 4 participants in order to go ahead.

    If you are a group of 3 or fewer, you will simply be added to another small group.

    There is no maximum group size as such.

    The ratio of participants to instructors is 12:1, so groups larger than this will need to give plenty of notice.

    The canoeing experience is not suitable for spectators.

  • Experience Duration: 3:00

    Time Spent at Venue: 3:10

    This is a 3-hour session, starting at either 9:15 am or13:15pm.

    You'll need to arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to thestart time to get yourself checked in.

    • Minimum Age: 10 years

  • The canoeing will go ahead in most weather conditions.

    However, if the experience is cancelled due to extreme or adverse conditions, you will simply be rescheduled for an alternative date.
