On this brilliant walking tour you’ll travel back nearly two thousand years to when sandals were all the rage and the Romans had just marched into Britain. Your guide for the day is Venutius, a member of the Brigantes Tribe and a true expert on Roman history. To set the scene properly he even arrives in full authentic costume, ready to share stories about life before the invasion, the dramatic changes during almost four centuries of Roman rule, and the reasons Hadrian’s Wall was built in the first place. The walk itself covers around 1.5 miles through the beautiful Northumberland National Park, giving you time to admire the sweeping moorland views while standing on one of the most famous landmarks in Britain. You’ll even come across the original defence ditch, still clearly visible after all this time. The experience also includes entry to a nearby museum where you can dig deeper into Roman Britain and uncover even more fascinating details. In total the tour lasts around four hours, so lace up your walking boots, join Venutius, and enjoy a day of history, scenery and storytelling on Hadrian’s Wall.
