Your one-day course begins with a health and safety briefing, followed by an introduction to MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding. You’ll cover everything from machine setup and shutdown to the use of different consumables, before practising on 4mm steel. Learn how to lay a bead and master essential welding joints—including lap, butt, and tee joints—ready to tackle your main project. After a break for lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to assembling and welding your fire pit.     Itinerary

    Morning session

    • Introduction to MIG welding
    • Basic welding theory and machine setup
    • Understanding MIG welding principles
    • Welding various joints using 4mm steel

    Afternoon session

    • Assemble and weld your own laser-cut firepit, using the skills learnt in the morning
    • Please wear suitable work clothes (long sleeves required)
    • Protective footwear is essential - available to hire for £20+VAT
    • Overalls can also be hired for £25+VAT
    • A leather apron and welding gauntlets will be supplied
    • Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch, a cafe, and a supermarket are within walking distance
    • Not suitable for spectators
    • Minimum age 16
    • If you are fitted with a heart pacemaker or wear contact lenses, please consult your doctor or/and your optician before booking this course
    • Session starts at 10:00 and finishes around 17:00
