History and fine craftsmanship combine on these bladesmithing experiences in Kent! You can choose between forging a traditional blacksmith's knife or a kitchen knife in full-day classes with the help of Owen, an experienced and passionate bladesmith who has been teaching knife-making skills for years. For Owen, creating a knife is all about putting soul into steel, and he specialises in forged blades, combining his love of food with his love of working metal. The classes take place at Bush Fire Forge, located on the edge of East Wickham Park in Kent. As a student of this bladesmithing school, you will have everything you need provided for you. If you decide to forge a blacksmith's knife, you will be making a classic one-piece, forged knife based on bog finds in Denmark, so your knife will have Viking heritage. On the other hand, if you choose the Kitchen Knife workshop, you will be making a practical knife for use with food, with an optional handle and sheath extras that can be paid for on the day. You will be taught basic forging techniques, heat treatment and blade sharpening methods by Owen, who has access to multiple workstations with hydraulic presses, power hammers and grinding stations around the heat-treating furnace, making the forge very well-equipped for teaching.
