This military driving experience near Salisbury gives four people the chance to get behind the wheel of genuine ex-Army vehicles in a quiet corner of the West Wiltshire Downs. You will be immersed in British Army life as you take control of historic military vehicles that have seen service with the British Forces. The vehicles available on the day may vary, but could include trucks, armoured personnel carriers and Jeeps, giving you the chance to experience the power and capability of genuine army transport. One of the standout vehicles in this historic fleet is the Land Rover 101 Forward Control, also known as the Land Rover One Tonne. Built to tow a field gun and carry up to a tonne of ammunition, it was never produced as a civilian model, making the opportunity to drive one particularly special. You may also encounter the Austin Champ Jeep, the British Army’s answer to the Jeep-style 4x4. First produced in 1951, these versatile vehicles served in a variety of roles, including as field ambulances and telecommunications trucks. Although these military vehicles have long since retired from service, they certainly haven't lost their power. With plenty of torque and serious off-road capability, learning to handle them will require plenty of concentration as you tackle the challenging terrain. This looked a good experience for both my son and husband to celebrate a birthday I paid twice so they could both have a driving experience. They got to drive the same two vehicles .... although not the opportunity to see the others mentioned in the description which was a little disappointing. I was under the impression that they would be able to look at the other vehicles and maybe choose which one they would like to drive this is probably my mistake, and is not what happens. The two vehicles were the only ones there, the others evidently being stored some way away. The instructor was friendly and enthusiastic about the vehicles that were available that day.The directions were a little tricky to follow and possibly need checking as we felt they were not completely correct. We managed to find it though and enjoyed it once we had. The weather was not kind which is noones fault, but there was nowhere to wait or watch so I ended up observing from our car.Just a small note there are no facilities at all available so dont arrived desperate for the loo theres one in the CoOp garage on the main road before you turn off for the venueWe might well visit again, but would check if we could have different vehicles available on the day, if we did. We felt the price was competitive with others available.
