About the Experience

If you fancy seeing Edinburgh in a way that goes beyond the guidebooks, this three-hour walking tour is a brilliant choice. Your guides are Stuart and Richard, whose great ancestor Andrew Usher was the whisky magnate behind the creation of Usher Hall – his generous donation paid for its construction back in the 19th century. Fittingly, that is where your journey begins, before winding its way through the city’s cobbled streets and hidden corners. Along the route you will take in some of the capital’s most famous landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, the dramatic St Giles’ Cathedral, Queen Margaret’s tiny chapel – the oldest building in the city – and the lush Princes Street Gardens. You will also pass the National Galleries of Scotland and a host of other historic spots, each one helping to paint a picture of a city shaped by centuries of triumph, tragedy and remarkable personalities. Expect tales of leaders, writers, philosophers, witches, bodysnatchers and even the story of a famously loyal Skye terrier. By the end, you will feel as though you have walked through the very heart of Auld Reekie’s history, leaving with a head full of stories and a new appreciation for one of Europe’s most fascinating cities.
