Those diesel locomotive enthusiasts in Derbyshire that have longed to drive one of these classic trains will get their chance to, on this brilliant heritage driving day experience at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, in the heart of the Peak District. You'll be part of a group of participants on the day, as you get the chance to drive two trains from this heritage railway's extensive rolling stock. You'll meet with your hosts on the day who will run through what to expect over the six hour session to come, heading out on a vintage diesel railcar (that's a train where the carriage and driver's cab is combined into one), with the chance to take turns at the controls as you roll down the line to Duffield and back. Then you'll be at the controls of a diesel locomotive hauling a passenger train, again doing a round trip down the line to Duffield and back to the terminus at Wirksworth. As well as the driving, you can also look forward to a tour of the sheds, and to see the restoration work carried out by a faithful team of skilled volunteers, as well as learn a bit more about the line and its history through a visit to the museum. You can grab a bit of lunch in the Station Cafe, and bring along a guest with you to ride along in the diesel railcar. Bronze Experience
