On the night of 16 May 1943, nineteen Lancaster bombers from the specially formed No. 617 Squadron RAF departed RAF Scampton on a daring mission deep into Germany. During the raid, pilots were required to maintain an exact altitude of just 60 feet. To achieve this, two spotlights were fitted beneath the aircraft, aligning into a single beam on the water’s surface when flying at precisely the correct height. This remarkable history is brought to life as you fly over the stunning Peak District National Park.
