This charming heritage line in Oxfordshire spans about eight miles from Chinnor station to Princes Risborough. Located near the Chilterns, your trip passes through ancient woodlands and includes a descent of 1 in 68, where you'll toot as you cross Wainhill Halt. After emerging from the cutting, you might see a cricket match at the Bledlow club green, then pass the former watercress beds, crossing Perry Lane bridge with scenic views of open fields. As the driver of this Type 4 diesel locomotive, you’ll navigate towards Thame Junction, leaving the heritage line for the mainline railway to Princes Risborough. After a short break, you’ll return to the footplate of this powerful 1960s Brush-built diesel to drive the train back to Chinnor. These personalised sessions are exclusive to you, offering a memorable, bespoke experience aboard the Type 4 locomotive for a full 16-mile journey.

    • Welcome, introduction and safety briefing
    • Sessions operate on an exclusive basis with just you and your train driving instructor
    • Familiarisation session with the locomotive to show how it works and the operation of its controls
    • Drive the 16-mile round trip to Princes Risborough Station and back (8 miles per leg)
    • The loco is a 'light engine' (no carriages)
    • Guidance from an experienced train driving instructor
    • Allow approximately two hours for this experience
    • Old clothing that fully covers the arms and legs should be worn
    • Wear sturdy shoes or boots that protect the feet - trainers are not permitted
    • Minimum age 16
    • Participants should be reasonably fit and in good health, fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive from ground level unaided
    • Selected weekday and weekend dates throughout the year
    • There will generally be 4 dates per month
    • Due to the popularity of this experience, please book well in advance to avoid disappointment
