About the Experience

Spend a peaceful half day out on the water with this guided canoe experience along the River Stort in Essex. Designed for those who are comfortable with basic paddling, this relaxed tour is all about slowing things down and enjoying the scenery. You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide as you gently canoe downstream, soaking up views of quiet countryside, calm waters and protected wildlife areas that make this stretch of river such a hidden gem. On arrival you will meet your group and guide, run through a short safety briefing and get fitted with a life jacket before heading to the canoes. The route will either take you from Bishop’s Stortford to Sawbridgeworth or from Sawbridgeworth through to Harlow Mill, each offering its own lovely views and peaceful surroundings. The pace is easy and unhurried, with opportunities to stop along the way for photos, refreshments or simply to enjoy the moment. At the end of your journey you will be collected and driven back to your starting point, rounding off a laid back and scenic day on the river.

  • The minimum age for this experience is 9

  • Wear casual, comfortable outdoorsy clothing that is appropriate for the weather on the day of your canoeing experience. All safety equipment and necessary gear will be provided for you.

  • Canoes are generally shared between two people. The canoe tour experience is not suitable for spectators, but great for groups - so why not get everyone involved!

  • This is a half day (approximately 3.5 hours) canoe tour experience.

    • Minimum Age: 9 years

  • The weather may affect your canoeing tour. If weather conditions are severe on the day of your booked canoeing experience, it may be the case that you will have to reschedule for an alternative date.

  • The canoeing tour is available throughout the year, on selected Saturday mornings. Some weekdays can be available on either a Wednesday or Friday.
