Details for the Knifemaking Course in Cheshire

Product ID: 15597

Discover the art of traditional knifemaking in Cheshire with these hands-on one-day workshops at the Ellesmere Port blacksmith’s forge, where you will learn to hand-forge your very own knife. Your instructor for the day is artisan blacksmith Alex, a skilled heritage craftsman who uses traditional forging techniques to create both classic and contemporary metalwork. While he’s often commissioned to make larger pieces like gates and handrails, he also has a real passion for crafting blades. During the workshop, you will focus on forging a knife with a metal blade and handle that’s not only decorative but fully functional too. With classes limited to just five participants, everyone has their own hearth to work from while Alex guides you step-by-step through the process of transforming a simple steel billet into a handcrafted knife. Set in Alex’s authentic Victorian workshop dating back to 1885, located within the National Waterways Museum along the south pier of Ellesmere Port, this experience offers a truly memorable introduction to the craft. Best of all, you will leave with the knife you forged yourself.
