Gliding in Lincolnshire doesn’t get much better than this 3,000ft aerotow experience from Saltby Airfield near Grantham. You will be smoothly towed skywards by the club’s tug plane, climbing steadily before releasing you at altitude to glide peacefully above the patchwork countryside of the East Midlands. Once detached, the noise drops away and the real magic begins as you soar silently over Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Your experienced instructor will explain how the glider handles, talk you through the controls and help you make the most of your time in the air. To extend the experience beyond the flight itself, this voucher also includes a complimentary two-month gliding club membership, giving you the chance to get more involved, build your knowledge and return to the skies. The club operates seven days a week, weather permitting, and is easily reached from major roads, making it a popular choice for gliding fans across the region.

Everyone was very welcoming. The flight was great and I was given the chance to take the controls of the glider myself when we were up, although I wasnt great at flying in a straight line It was all well organised at Buckminster Gliding Club and I would thoroughly recommend it. Best to use a voucher in the summer months though when there is a better chance of thermals and a longer flight. They did very kindly give me a second flight but that was at their discretion and not part of the deal.

    Temporary membership to the gliding club:

    • 3000ft 20-25 minutes in the air - 2 months club membership
    • Although specific launch or flying types can be requested, the flight and aircraft type will be chosen by the instructor on the day, taking weather conditions and other factors into account
    • Spectators are welcome to watch the lesson from the clubhouse
    • No minimum age limits
    • Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult on the airfield
    • Weight restrictions: minimum 6.5 stone (40kg), maximum 16 stone (100kg)
    • Height restrictions: minimum 5ft (152cms) maximum 6ft 5ins (195cms)

After some rainy days we finally made it up on a cold January day for a fantastic gliding experience at the Grantham Airfield..and there were thermals We both had a go and the birthday boy stayed up for nearly an hour with his tutor and I, as a passenger, broke the January record at over an hour
