With about 2500 bhp, the powerful roar of the Type 4 has echoed across the country’s railway network since the early 1960s, transporting passengers and freight. Today, some classic Brush-built locomotives still operate on mainline certificates, though most are retired. The Type 4 you will drive has been meticulously restored and now proudly operates at Chinnor Railway. Your Chinnor crew will greet you on the locomotive's footplate. After a quick familiarisation, you’ll hear the signal's clunk, and you’re ready to start- rolling in your Type 4 along the eight-mile line from Chinnor to Princes Risborough and back.     • The loco is a 'light engine' (no carriages)
    • Guidance from an experienced train driving instructor
    • Allow approximately two hours for this experience

    30 Minute Drive

    • Drive the train for 4 miles (approx. 30 minutes at the controls)
    • You will form part of a small group of four participants
    • Old clothing that fully covers the arms and legs should be worn
    • Wear sturdy shoes or boots that protect the feet - trainers are not permitted
    • Minimum age 16
    • Participants should be reasonably fit and in good health, fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive from ground level unaided
    • Selected weekday and weekend dates throughout the year
    • There will generally be 4 dates per month
    • Due to the popularity of this experience, please book well in advance to avoid disappointment
