Based at North Hill Airfield, this friendly, member-owned gliding club has been soaring for over 60 years and is one of the largest in Devon and the South West. Open all year round, it’s a welcoming and vibrant place to experience the magic of flight. You will fly in a modern two-seater glider from the club’s impressive fleet. Your launch will be via aerotow, where a Eurofox tug plane tows the glider skyward before releasing it to glide silently, powered purely by natural air currents. Depending on the conditions, you may experience ridge lift or thermal soaring, and you might even share the sky with local wildlife such as buzzards or red kites that inhabit this protected landscape. The views are simply breathtaking. From above, you can often see both the North and South Devon coastlines at once, along with sweeping panoramas of the Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and Dartmoor. Flights typically last between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the weather. While you are airborne, friends and family are welcome to relax in the airfield clubhouse and café.
