About the experience

Product ID: 17045

If you - or a loved one - with a disability or visual impairment are based in Kent and are keen history enthusiasts, then this exciting accessible flying experience may be the one for you to discover some local landmarks from a whole new perspective like you never have before! Taking off from Rochester Airport, you'll get to discover the abundant history of the Medway area of Kent, and its many ancient Roman walls, Norman castles and cathedrals and naval docks from the air on this hour-long trial flight in an Ikarus C42. We are working with a supplier who are a leading disability organisation, specialising in providing unique flying experiences to all those with a disability of any kind. A friendly, experienced flying instructor will accompany you for the duration of your flight, helping you to get accustomed to the controls. Your first destination following take off will be to the magnificent Rochester Castle, built in the 11th century by Bishop Gundulf. Following the course of the River Medway, you'll head to Chatham, and its historic naval dockyards which were, at one time, one of the busiest naval sites in the country, and are now home to a museum and heritage site. From there, it's over to Leeds Castle, with its gorgeous romantic setting in 500 acres of parkland surrounded by a moat, and to Uppner Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century to protect the Thames estuary from invasion. Finally, you'll take flight over Cooling Castle, a ruin from the 14th century that was believed to be Charles Dickens' inspiration for his novel, Great Expectations. Whether you're a history fanatic, a nature lover or just want to experience the thrills of flying, this will give you the chance to see Kent as you never have before, creating special memories that will last a lifetime.
