Learning to Fly Model Planes

Flying model planes has become a very popular pastime in the last two decades, with hobbyists and enthusiasts the world over discovering the delights of flying small scale model planes using a radio controlled handset, which sends the planes skyward by means of emitting short and long wave pulses.

Although, in actual fact, they've been around for at least a century. The late 19th century was when they were first used, mainly in light entertainment settings like music hall theatres. As both World Wars came and went, they were also used by, for example, the US Army and Navy, who utilised them in World War II as artillery target drones.

And whilst Drone Flying has undoubtedly grown at a rate of knots in recent years, being powered by more sophisticated mobile handsets and GPS technology, in many ways, Model Plane Flying carries a bit more play at its heart, mainly because the technology that gets the planes up in the air has largely stayed the same from then to now - another reason for its enduring popularity.

Model Plane Flight Training and Lessons

At Experiences UK, we're delighted to now be offering our first ever Model Plane Flight Training sessions. There are currently two courses available to book yourself - or the model flyer in your life - onto, both of which are tailored to different levels of skill.

Those who are novices to model plane flying will get a lot more out of the Basic Flight Training session, which will focus on commencing the training you need to obtain your 'A' test, which certifies you as safe to fly to model clubs and schools.

But for those who are seasoned model plane fliers, the Advanced Flight Training will let you broaden your existing knowledge and expertise further, as you attempt to pull off some impressive aerobatic displays!

Where to Fly Model Planes in the UK

Both the Basic Flight Training and Advanced Flight Training programmes are currently hosted at the BMFA (British Model Flying Association), and their base in the village of Buckminster in Leicestershire.

Their headquarters is set within 40 acres of open East Midlands countryside, with spectacular vistas and panoramic views that are the perfect backdrop to gain your model wings. There is also a busy calendar on-site with many great events taking place, including competitions, swap meets and fly-ins, as well as an RC model museum and the Flyer's Cafe.
