Come aboard our boat tour and get up close to the impressive off-shore wind turbines of the Brighton wind farm. This is your chance to witness one of the most remarkable feats of modern engineering, with an experienced skipper guiding you throughout the tour. By harnessing the power of the wind, the wind farm generates electricity without relying on nuclear reactions or burning non-renewable fossil fuels. You will witness the massive three-bladed turbines located far out at sea, turning and turning without interruption. These exclusive or shared Brighton tours offer you the opportunity to learn and experience this incredible wind farm. Our 38ft South Boats catamaran 'Brighton Diver II' will take you from Brighton Marina to about nine miles off-shore, where the wind farm begins. Covering a massive 72 square kilometres of sea, stretching 28 km from east to west and 10 km from north to south, the wind farm has a total of 161 massive metal windmills, each towering 140 meters high above sea level. The first turbine of this £1.3 billion project was installed back in March 2017. Since then, workers have completed construction on an average of one windmill per day, making this one of the largest renewable energy projects in England. Once the base is ready, it takes five separate lifts using a special boat to build the turbines, with the tower, the cell, and each of the three blades being hauled up and into place. The 2000-tonne off-shore sub-station installed as part of the wind farm is equally impressive. During the two to three-hour wind farm tour, your skipper, Paul, will provide you with interesting facts and insights about the wind farm. You'll also get a chance to enjoy a return trip back to the marina via Brighton seafront, completing your sea adventure.
