Since first airing on Channel 4 in 2018, Lisa McGee’s hilarious sitcom Derry Girls, chronicling growing up during the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1990s, has become a hugely popular international smash. But what fans of the five potty mouthed, misfit Catholic schoolgirls Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James (the wee English fella) may not know is that, whilst much of the show was filmed in Derry itself, many of its scenes were also filmed in Belfast. And this absolutely class tour of Belfast, in a Hackney style taxi cab, will let you take in some of the most memorable locations from the show, from the exterior of Our Lady Immaculate College, presided over by the girls’ world weary headmistress, Sister Michael, to the shop used to film the interior scenes in Dennis’ Wee Shop. Not only that, but you’ll also visit Fionnula’s Fish and Chips, the site of the memorable Friday night chip shop scene where Granda Joe hilariously and memorably barked “I’ll compromise you through that window!” to long suffering Da Gerry, where your tour will also conclude. And provided you don’t find a chippy tea, in the words of James, “much, much, much too greasy”, this is a sightseeing tour that Derry Girls fans are sure to find plenty of good craic on!
