About the experience

There's a gardener in all of us - as you'll discover when you book onto this excellent one day gardening course, hosted at Raymond Blanc's gardening school at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire. First opened in the grounds of this five star hotel in 1984, the renowned chef patron Raymond Blanc created his kitchen garden to source a lot of the produce for the famous Manoir restaurant that's on-site, so as to keep the dishes fresh and seasonal, but also to reduce their carbon footprint, as many of the fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers grown here have zero miles! An expert team of gardeners look after and maintain the gardens, which includes eleven different gardens and orchards with over 2500 trees. And whatever size your own green space is at home - a courtyard or cottage garden, a window box or even a veggie patch or allotment, you're sure to pick up some useful tips and insights on this informative course. Your day will be spent with the gardening team down at the Hartley Botanic 'Grand Lodge' Glasshouse. What exactly you'll be getting stuck into is dependent on the time of year. Come along in the winter, and you might be pruning the fruit trees ready for next year. Or if it's a nice summer's day, you might be growing micro herbs or picking edible flowers. It's hands-on learning, so you'll get a deep dive look into how the professional gardeners produce a sustainable yield, as well as discovering the science behind soil and composting. It's a fun and informative experience that's suitable for gardeners of all ages and all levels of expertise!
