Military Drive Experience
About the experience
All of the off-roaders available for this experience are genuine ex-Army vehicles that have seen action while serving with the British Forces. If these vehicles could speak, they would have countless anecdotes and tales to share about the dangers and heroic acts they have been a part of, facing adversity in the line of duty. The available military vehicles may vary but include trucks, armoured personnel carriers, and jeeps, giving you an idea of the calibre of army transport you could be driving. One of the most fascinating vehicles in this historic military fleet is the Land Rover 101 Forward Control. It is commonly referred to as the Land Rover One Tonne due to its ability to tow a field gun and carry a tonne of ammunition. This Landy was never produced in a civilian version, making it quite an honour to be able to drive one. The Salisbury-based military vehicle event operator has an Austin Champ Jeep, which happens to be the oldest resident of the collection. The British Army awarded Austin the contract to build a UK-made Jeep-style 4x4 light truck, which was designated as FV1801A. The first vehicle was produced in 1951 at the Longbridge production line. The vehicles were used for various purposes such as field ambulances and telecoms trucks during combat. The one on display is armoured with a (decommissioned) .303 Bren gun. So why wait? Treat a military vehicle enthusiast to the driving experience of a life time!
