About the experience

Head out on the hills for a Full Day with this Map Reading Navigation Experience in the Peak District. Learn the essential skill of map reading and navigation so you can explore the beautiful countryside that the UK has to offer. You will be welcomed with an hour theory session over a tea or coffee to get you started before heading out to get walking. With guidance from an experienced instructor you will learn about maps, how to get a grid reference, read systems and scales as well as learn strategies, distance, direction, and much more. You will also learn to understand contours, hazard awareness and how to route find so that you can stay safe when going walking. Lasting six hours your group of up to twelve people will be master map readers and no time and never have to worry about getting lost again!

  • Set off on foot from Stoney Middleton with the host

  • You will be walking and navigating for around 6 hrs

Minimum Age: 14 years

  • On selected weekend dates throughout the year
  • Courses begin at 09:00 finishing around 16:00

  • Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult
  • A good standard of fitness is required as you may be walking for up to six hours
  • All participants will require standard hill walking gear including good waterproofs and walking boots/shoes
  • A packed lunch with water should be taken
