About the experience
Travel back in time and become a Master of the Mediaeval Longbow with this experience in Maldon, Essex. Starting with a briefing and introduction, you will learn the basic skills needed to fire one of these huge bows used as far back in time as the 14th century. Aim and shoot at mediaeval themed targets set out at different distances and see how far you can progress during your session, learning techniques such as the ‘victorian stance’ and the principles of speed shooting. During the session you can try out the different draw weight bows to see what works for you. These sessions are a great way to get excited about trying out a bit of history. Information
- All experiences include handmade longbows and arrows crafted by talented bowyers and fletchers. Equipment and necessary PPE is provided.
Longbow Masterclass
- Learn how to shoot "Victorian style" including stance, handling and release techniques
- Progress to learn "Medieval" archery and the principles of speed shooting
- Different draw weight bows will be available so you can progress
- Short and long range targets
- Please allow up to 3 hours on site
- You may form a group of up to 16 people
- This is an outdoor activity so please dress appropriately for the time of year and weather conditions. Be prepared to be exposed to the great British weather
Minimum Age: 8 years
- Available on selected days throughout the year, subject to availability
- Book early to avoid disappointment, we recommend booking at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance
- Under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult
- Participants should have a good, general level of fitness
- Spectators are welcome
