His passion for helicopters led him to set up the training school at Shobdon after gaining extensive experience as a helicopter pilot and instructor in the USA. Shobdon, with its excellent relations with the local community and unrestricted airspace, provides an ideal setting for helicopter operations. The two-seater flights use the renowned Robinson R22 training helicopter. Suitable For

Minimum age is 14 years
Under 18s must be accompanied on the airfield by an adult
Maximum weight for flights in the 2 seater R22 is 17 stone
There are no weight restrictions for the 5 seater Jetranger
All guests will need to provide photographic ID in order to fly
Participants of the five seater experiences are allowed to bring 2-3 interested observers (min age 14) who can observe the lesson from the rear seat (at the discretion of the flight instructor and subject to weather conditions and weight restrictions)

Absolutely brilliant loved every minute would love to do it again

My Helicopter Experience was amazing! I didn't want it to end. Everyone at Shobdon airfield were really friendly especially James, the flight instructor. He made me feel very comfortable and was very patient. I even got to fly the helicopter myself!! It's also great for friends and family to come along and watch. They have a great kitchen/ diner where you can help yourself to drinks and a small balcony to watch from. All in all a great day. Would highly recommend.

This was a special birthday gift for my partner who is one of those people who has tried just about everything and is very difficult to buy a present for! The flight took place on a perfect day weather wise and my partner didnâ€™t stop smiling from start to finish. The welcome and intro was thorough and informative, pilot James was absolutely the best, so knowledgable, skilled, friendly and with a great sense of humour. I was allowed to look round the helicopter and to get up close and personal to take lots of pictures to commemorate the day .. all in all a fabulous experience for both my partner and myself ! Definitely recommend and will be booking again!
