Get up close with magnificent birds of prey at a family-run centre near Horsham in West Sussex, with the hugely popular half-day ‘Gauntlet’ experience at the stunning Sumner’s Ponds. Designed for ages 12 and over, this immersive session gets you hands-on with a variety of incredible raptors. The ‘Gauntlet’ name comes from the traditional falconer’s glove, an essential piece of kit that not only protects your hand from sharp talons and beaks, but also acts as a landing perch for these powerful birds. During your half-day experience, you will learn the art of falconry, discover how these birds are trained and handled, and enjoy the unforgettable thrill of having them fly to and from your glove. Each bird has its own unique personality, making every interaction feel special and memorable. Set on a beautiful working farm surrounded by lakes, woodlands and open countryside, the location adds to the magic of the day. With a lakeside café on-site, it’s the perfect spot to relax with a cuppa and cake after your experience.

My daughter brought us this for Christmas and we had a wonderful time. Lovely quiet location. The ladies who run this are lovely, attentive and ever so helpful. The hawks are beautiful and very well looked after. A must for anyone who is interested in these amazing animals. 5star treatment and experience.

An unforgettable morning. The range of birds was definitely the WOW factor. The instructors were welcoming, knowledgeable and informative. There were three people on the course but we all got at least three goes at flying each of five birds. I would recommend the experience.

Our day turned out very wet. We did not receive a cancellation so travelled to the site. Birds cannot fly well in the wet but the people were very happy to let us carry out the experience under cover. In fact we had a superb time. My grandson is only 7 but he thoroughly enjoyed himself and the ladies were very informative and answered all his questions. He held the birds and the final bird, a Harris hawk took place outside as the rain had stopped. Would recommend this experience to others, wonderful time. We intend to go back next year.

Very good solo session with a number of birds, informative and helpful staff made it a day to remember despite the inclement weather. An experience to be recommended

Very enjoyable half day experience. Very informative. Really helpful when having to rearrange visit owing to bad weather. Enjoyed the owls but disappointed that I only experienced flying one aging hawk.

I had a great falconry experience through into the blue. One piece of feedback would be a better well some integration between into the blue website and booking the actual event.
