About the experience

Fans of one of ITV's most successful period drama series of the last decade will be excited to get booked on for this exclusive mini coach tour, exploring the upstairs downstairs world of the Crawley family, in Downton Abbey! Although the show is set in Yorkshire, you'll actually be setting off from Central London to the Cotswolds and then Highclere Castle in Hampshire on this day long coach tour, which will take you into the world of the BAFTA and NTA winning series created by Julian Fellowes, the backdrop of which is in post-Edwardian England during the reign of King George V. Starting in 1912, the series, which first aired in 2010, started following the sinking of the RMS Titanic, and also referenced the outbreak of World War I, the Spanish flu pandemic, and the rise of the British middle class and decline of the aristocracy, and the resulting scandals and dramas that arise. You'll start your tour in the backdrop for Downton village, which is the pretty Cotswolds village of Bampton, and take in the hospital, village pub and Matthew Crawley's former home as well as Isobel Crowley's beautiful home. With an enthusiastic fan of the show as your guide, you'll not miss a minute or detail that's seen on screen, as they'll show you comparative side-by-side screenshots of each stop along the tour. Once you're all done at Bampton, you'll then head to the grand and stately Highclere Castle, best known as the Crawley family seat. In real life, it is home to Lord and Lady Carnarvon, and you'll have three hours to explore the estate and its finely manicured gardens, which also includes tea rooms in the stable yards offering light lunches and cream teas - a perfect way to end the tour in fine style before you board the mini coach back to London!
