About the experience
The spirit of steam and diesel train travel is very much alive and well - as you'll discover with a Day Rover Railway Ticket on the East Somerset Railway! This charming heritage preserved light railway is located in the village of Cranmore near Shepton Mallet, deep in the heart of the Mendip countryside in Somerset. The railway's terminus is situated here, together with a museum, waiting room, ticket office, shop, model shop, miniature railway, art gallery and restaurant, and a fully working signal box. The original line that ran here was the Cheddar Valley line between Witham and Yatton. After it was closed following Dr Beeching's controversial report in 1963, steam enthusiast David Shepherd purchased it in 1972 and established the current preservation society, with the railway reopening in 1975, with further line extensions to Merryfield halt in 1981 and Mendip Vale in 1985, with a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers still running it to this day. With your rover ticket, you can hop aboard and alight on as many timetabled steam and diesel trains as you like and discover just what this stunning line has to offer.

Information
- This experience is for a minimum of two people
- Under 17s must be accompanied by a participating adult
- You are more than welcome to bring family and friends, however they will be required to purchase a ticket on the day
- Open weekends from March to October and selected weekdays in the summer
- Vouchers are valid for most special events but not children's character visit days, Day Out with Thomas, Evening Wine and Dines or Santa Specials
- Home-made meals and refreshments can be purchased from the Whistlestop Cafe
