About the experience

Take a break from the mass produced world and enroll on a course in one of the oldest skills of the modern age, Blacksmithing. Not only will you learn the process from start to finish, but get to experience a day in a forge village in Huddersfield home to Owen, a talented blacksmith and holder of a degree in Industrial Design. In this experience, you will get to see Owen’s handiwork and will walk away impressed by his handcrafted outdoor cooking range and fire pits. It’s hard not to be dazzled by his attention to detail and the amount of physical work that goes into creating each piece. In this experience, you’ll take the reins and learn the whole process through the tools used which includes firing up the gas and coke forges. Even though a serious amount of work goes into creating even the smallest pieces of metal work, you’ll no doubt walk away with a renewed respect for the craft as well as having a chance to explore your own creativity. Not only will you get to learn a new skill, but you can walk away with whatever you create which provides you with a unique keepsake for the whole experience. If you’ve ever been fascinated by how metal items were made in the past or curious about the work that went into them, this is the experience for you. You’ll not only learn a new physical skill, but gain an insight into how past populations made items we take for granted today.
