About the experience

For you or the animal lover in your life that’s dreamt of getting stuck in and being a keeper, this fantastic experience day will let you join the team at Hoo Farm Wildlife Centre near Telford in Shropshire, to be an Animal Keeper for the day! This is a very hands-on experience, as you’ll get to muck in and undertake many of the daily tasks. You’ll start off with some of the smaller animals, including hedgehogs and tenrecs - after all, it’s about keeping all creatures great and small happy, healthy and comfortable. That's part of being an animal keeper. Most people that go on this experience will always look forward to spending time with Bear, the raccoon - raccoons are usually quite shy and retiring creatures, but Bear is very friendly and it’ll be a highlight of your day for sure. So too, will the most important part of any day in the life of a keeper - meal times! And whether it’s bottle feeding the goats, or giving food to the meerkats, it’s highly enjoyable. Of course, there’ll be time for you to stop for lunch as well. As well as meeting other amazing species such as foxes, possums and binturongs, you’ll also get to spend time in the company of the majestic and graceful European eagle owls - you’ll even get to take part and assist in some of the demonstrations that the keepers do with these for visitors. Overall, it’s the perfect opportunity for the Dr Doolittle in your life to talk and walk with the animals!
