Two Hour African Drumming Experience - London
About the experience
Feel the rhythm and the vibes on this lively two hour African Drumming Workshop! Hosted in Bethnal Green in East London, this fun workshop is led by Djembefolas (that means Master Drummers), from whom you will be learning authentic African drum beats on traditional djembe drums. Beautifully decorated, you play these drums with your hands - so you really do get to feel the beat! And when a chorus of djembe drums starts beating together in harmony, it really is one of the most vibrant and rousing sounds you will ever hear. And whilst it can take years of practice and expertise to become a djembefola, in just two hours, you’ll get to master a basic bass tone and slap techniques used to play African drums. You’ll find it’s quite easy to pick up, as you’ll follow a call and response pattern led by the Djembefola - so you literally copy and repeat what they’re doing. You’ll be drumming rhythms including the Crocodile Walk, Jole and Kuku in no time at all! A great group activity to do together with family, friends or even colleagues as an unusual team building activity, it’s suitable for all ages and levels of experience. It’s also an experience you’ll learn a lot on, including a deeper understanding of the history of African music, and how significant a role the djembe drum plays in music and culture. And best of all, as this experience is hosted at a community based project, it means you’ll play a small part in keeping this wonderful initiative alive for future generations to enjoy.
