Take the controls of your own flex or fixed-wing microlight with expert guidance from our fantastic instructor, Brad, at the picturesque Brown Shutters Farm Airfield. Brown Shutters was created in 1988 when Eric Newbigin, an ex-Fleet Arm pilot, began operating his Tiger Moth from the site. Over the years, the field has become a home for numerous aircraft, mainly Microlights. Further down the line, local pilot Andy Greenwell arrived at Brown Shutters, becoming the driving force behind the regeneration of the airfield, which included building a second runway in 2016. Brad, offering both fixed and flex-wing experiences, delights in introducing curious newcomers to the sport. The fixed high-wing Cyclone AX2000 boasts side-by-side seating, a central control stick, and rubber pedals. This craft is exceptionally forgiving, with light control forces, making it an ideal choice for beginners. - No minimum age, however participants must be able to reach the controls
- Under 18s must always be accompanied by an adult on the airfield
- Maximum hight is 6ft 4ins
- Maximum weight limit for the fixed wing is 14 stone/ 88.90 kg, and 17 stone 107.95 kg for the flex wing
- Available weekdays and weekends throughout the year

This was an amazing experience. Brad is such a great pilot/host/tour guide and instructor. He makes the experience a joy. I've never been in a microlight before and would definitely love to do it again. The views are staggering. The opportunity to learn and have a little go was both terrifying and safe at the same time. Most thrilling experience with a reassuringly professional and competent pilot. Brad was welcoming to my wife and me on arrival at the delightful airfield and entertaining company during the flight. Importantly, his pre-flight communications were quick and helpful. Fiona, who we left at the airfield during the flight, thoroughly enjoyed her time on the ground. Having seen Wiltshire from such a different perspective, I will go again.

Microlight flight got cancelled at 8.30am on the day of the flight as pilot stuck in France. Rebooked for the following day which turned out to be a clear blue warm day so perfect conditions and much better than the previous days weather.
The pilot was friendly, made me feel at ease, explained everything very well, I took controls for a lot of the flight time. Brilliant experience, flight time 1 hour and I was given a choice of routes.

Flight was amazing. Very smooth with lovely views over Bath, Cheddar Gorge and countryside. Brad put me at my ease and explained everything. Only lost a star as weather meant it had to be postponed 3 times and road closures at Limpley Stoke made access very difficult. Well worth the wait and perseverance getting there though. Thank you Brad
